Our team is led by Ewuwuni Onnoghen-Theophilus (Mrs) who holds a Master of Laws degree in construction law (LL.M) from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. She is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2008.
Ewuwuni is a notary public and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK (MCIArb), a Certified Negotiator (Programme on Negotiation, Harvard Law School) and an accredited mediator. In 2016, Ewuwuni authored the first textbook on the laws and legal principles that govern the Nigerian construction industry. Her book is titled “Construction Law in Nigeria”. The second edition of the book was published in June 2022.
As lead counsel in Onnoghen-Theophilus, Ewuwuni frequently represents public and private sector clients in court and arbitral proceedings. As an arbitrator, she sits as sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator in construction disputes. Ewuwuni is listed as member in the Panel of Neutrals of the Uwais Dispute Resolution Centre (formerly known as the Abuja Multidoor Court House of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory), Nigeria, the Delta State Multidoor Court House, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, and the Dispute Resolution Centre of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nigeria. Mrs. Onnoghen-Theophilus is an Ontario Dispute Adjudication for Construction Contracts (ODACC) Adjudicator in Canada. Ewuwuni regularly delivers papers and presentations at seminars, trainings, and workshops. She has moderated sessions at conferences on ADR and construction law. Ewuwuni is a member of the Executive Committee (Exco) of the Construction Projects & Infrastructure Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association-Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL). Her tenure in the said position will expire in 2025. In June 2018, Ewuwuni was listed as one of the top successful women in Nigeria’s real estate sector.
